Managing the Chao Phraya River and Delta in Bangkok, Thailand: Flood Control, Navigation and Land Subsidence Mitigation

Land subsidence as a result of the groundwater withdrawals in Chao Phraya Delta Thailand will be studied along with any successful remediation efforts. Most deltas South East Asia are sinking for variety reasons. has national concerns related to land sea level rise, climate change, flooding, storm surges, skyscrapers, compaction, and extraction rice paddies, shrimp ponds drinking water household needs approximately 15 million people living on Delta. The River shoreline line is eroding significant areas wetlands being lost becoming open water. Urban periodically flooded require earthen levees or floodwalls. objective assess mitigate aquaculture, ponds, industry, Bangkok. impact reduced sedimentation assessed mitigation methods recommended. Lessons learned efforts one Southeast delta may not applicable other deltas. There need identified add sediment existing wetlands. also injected deep into underlying alluvial sediments delta. Navigation canal systems could adversely affected by proposed massive injections
